You just cannot have Turkish food without this Salad.

A must have for all Turkish dishes

This super simple Sumac and Onion turkish salad is my all time favorite. You just cannot have Turkish food without this salad (that would be a sin).

You would always see this salad in Turkish restaurants. This salad is the salad you see accompanying every Turkish dish – do you remember? next time keep a look out for it . The salad recipe can vary from restaurant to restaurant quite a bit; however, overall, it has the same ingredients. I like to add my own twist to this recipe by adding some chopped chilies ? as I like it a bit hot which gives it a bit of a kick. If you don’t have Sumac, you can substitute this with pomegranate powder (anardana powder).

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 red Onion – finely sliced
  • 2 tbsp Sumac powder (pomegranite powder)
  • 1 tbsp chopped Parsley
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp fresh green chilies (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil (optional)

Assembling

  • Finely slice the red onion, separate the strands and transfer into a mixing bowl.
  • Now add finely sliced Chilies (optional that’s if you want a slight kick to the salad).
  • Now add 2 tbsp. Sumac powder and mix well.
  • Finely add the chopped parsley and add the juice of half a lemon.
  • Serve along side mixed grill’s, adana kebabs and many more Turkish dishes.

How to Prepare this in advance????

  • Cut the onions and add the chopped Parsley and refrigerate in a container.
  • When ready to serve, add the sumac powder, lemon juice, oil, sugar, and mix well. Additionally, since sumac does not last for long, it’s best to add this when ready to serve.
