Recently i filmed myself making Masala Fried Lamp Chops using a Shan masala packet… you must try this!
A perfect blend of spices to help you prepare crispy mouth-watering mutton chops for a perfect appetizer platter.
Shan Global Foods offer”s many ready -made masala packets that are very handy to use.
This is a very basic recipe video showing you my step-by-step guide on how easy it is using a ready-made Shan masala packet.
You can adjust this recipe in many ways but this is the basic recipe to follow for beginners. Once you’ve mastered the recipe and are happy with the taste, try adding some sliced onions, sliced peppers for a twist and experiment with different look’s.
These packet masala are very handy for taking to picnics, outdoor field trips, outdoor bbq’s, students, bachelors and many more first time cook’s. You don’t need to gather a variety of different masalas to make fried chops, just use this spice mix and you are good to go.
I used Lamb chops for this recipe, feel free to use what you like.

How to make this
- You will need approx 11 pieces of Lamb chops and 1 packet of Shan Fried chops / steaks masala packet.
- Hammer down and tenderizer each piece of chops with a tenderizer, this helps breaks down the fibers and makes it easier to digest.
- Wash the meat thoroughly and pat dry
- Follow the instructions at the back of the packet. Add the spice powder to the chops.
- Mix well and cover. Let this marinade for a minimum of 2 hours.
- Heat a heavy based pan and add the oil (I used only half the quantity stated on the packet)
- Once the oil is heated, carefully add the chops to the pan. Mix well.
- Let the chops seal completely and mix thoroughly.
- Add some yogurt if you like the lamp chop’s to have a bit of gravy in it. This is optional and a variation I do depending on what I’m serving the chops with.
- Keep mixing well at regular intervals and keep an eye on the bottom. If it starts to stick add more oil (remember we only added half the oil stated on the packet).
- Cover the pot with a lid and cook on medium gas for 10-15mins. The time to cook will vary of the type of meat and thickness of the cut’s you have. Thicker cuts will take a bit longer, thinner cut’s will take less time. Keep checking and mixing until your chops are soft and tender.
- Once tender and cooked, remove from the heat and serve.
- TIP : If serving at dinner parties, cover the bone with foil so that your hands don’t get messy 🙂
❗❗A few tips of making this:❗❗
- It’s best to try these packet masala packet in advance and not on the day you have guests round. This is to prevent any unexpected mishaps that can happen. I find the salt content slightly high in these packets so test these out so you can adjust to your own level.
- Don’t follow the packet religiously. Tweak were you can and adjust to your taste.
- Usually I always start of with half the quantity of oil stated on the packets. Then I add as and when required.
- My used lamb chops for this recipe but if you choose to use a different type of meat like beef chops, adjust the time to cook according to your meat and check the chops are well cooked and tender before removing from the heat.
